Are Water Powered Cars Just a Dream?

One is reminded of the expense associated with oil derived gasoline upon every trip to the pump. Harming both our pocketbooks and the environment, we are dependent on a dangerous substance, much like any other common addict. Is there a way to kick the habit? Some say there is with water powered cars.

We power our cars today much the same way we did 75 years ago. What other technology has changed so little over that period of time? This is despite the many negative effects of oil use, some of which are just becoming well understood. They range from financial to deadly.

Crude oil is now trading at record highs. Some of this price is due to political uncertainty arising out of many places where it is commonly found. Protection of the shipping routes and reserve sites is a tremendous cost which is reflected in your tax bills as opposed to your gasoline bill.

Another impetus behind rising oil prices is rising demand. Many developing countries are now coming to the stage where the masses have access to automobiles. More cars necessitate more oil. New cars in production for extremely low prices only add to this demand.

Supply of oil is not increasing. Many claimed we have reached "peak oil", or the maximum output we'll ever see. New reserves are very hard to reach, expensive to explore, and are often in environmentally sensitive areas. Unfortunately, we will not be able to drill ourselves out of the problem.

So if not gasoline, what is the alternative? Our suburban sprawl disallows public transportation for the majority of Americans. Ethanol is a small help, but there isn't enough land on earth to grow enough corn or sugar to meet transportation needs, let alone us having food to eat.

Some claim the answer is as simple as water. Water is the most abundant thing on earth. There are processes like brown's gas which can convert water to a combustible fuel that doesn't pollute the environment. It is a dream that is not being sufficiently explored.

There are many reasons to seek to kick the oil habit. It is despoiling our planet and wreaking havoc upon our economy. It is also costing the lives of those who serve our country in uniform. An obvious solution is water powered cars. Necessity is the mother of invention, and the need has never been greater. Hopefully the time has come to turn oil into water.
